The Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) is an administrative agency for the Commonwealth that is responsible for providing attorneys to represent those who cannot afford counsel. In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are entitled to a court appointed attorney if you cannot afford to hire an attorney, and if the Court determines that an important interest, excluding disputes over money, is at stake. Court appointed attorneys represent people accused of crimes, families that are involved with the Department of Social Services, and people who are at risk of civil commitment and forced medication.
